DESCRIPTION:Join us for TWO Brazilian carnival dance classes—frevo and samba! You are welcome to come to one or both. Also stay for our bateria (samba percussion ensemble) rehearsal with André Coelho at 3PM! \nFrevo with Kate: 1-2PM\nLearn the basics of Recife’s carnival dance\, frevo! Dancer and dance scholar Kate Spanos will demonstrate and teach frevo dance using the methodology of Mexe Com Tudo (Otávio Bastos) of Recife. Learn more about frevo and Mexe Com Tudo here. \nSamba with Zezeh: 2-3PM\nLearn samba from Zezeh\, Brazilian dancer\, teacher\, choreographer\, performer\, and healer from São Paulo with a mission to bring more joy to the world through art. Zezeh will demonstrate and teach the basics of samba dance. \nThis event is free and open to the public. All levels are welcome to participate. While primarily intended for adults\, everyone is welcome. Please note that this class will be held at Old Parish House of College Park at 4711 Knox Road. \nThe event is a program of College Park-based arts non-profit EducArte. SUMMARY:EducArte’s Brazilian Percussion Practice
DESCRIPTION:Learn from Brazilian samba master percussionist André Coelho from Rio de Janeiro! André will show and demonstrate each of the essential Brazilian samba percussion instruments. We will have some percussion instruments available for participants to use\, but please bring your own instruments if you have any. \nThis is a regularly occurring Brazilian percussion ensemble practice. All levels are welcome to participate; while primarily intended for adults\, all ages are welcome. \nRegistration is $80 for the full semester (September – December 2022) or $15 per drop-in. Purchase now or at the door. First-timers can participate for free! (Needs-based scholarships are also available if payment is an issue.) \n\nThe event is a program of College Park-based arts non-profit EducArte.
