SUMMARY:College Park Trolley Trail Day 2023
DESCRIPTION:Educarte Joins College Park’s Trolley Trail Day \nOur regular Brazilian Carnival dance class and Bateria drumming class at the Old Parish House will be a stop on the Trolley Trail. Participants can stop in and join us! \nThe Trolley Trail is a 3.5-mile-long trail that is a recreational and transportation asset. By linking the downtowns and commercial areas of the three Baltimore Avenue Corridor communities\, the Trolley Trail serves as a convenient connection between our communities. It also connects into the larger region’s trail network\, linking us with the District of Columbia and other jurisdictions. As in 2019\, community development groups the College Park City-University Partnership\, Hyattsville CDC\, and Maryland Milestones now known as Anacostia Trails Heritage Area Inc. (ATHA)\, local governments\, and nonprofit organizations are holding the second annual Trolley Trail Day on June 10\, 2023. The first annual Trolley Trail Day had over 800 people and over 40 businesses participating. You are welcome to come to one or both. Also stay for our bateria (samba percussion ensemble) rehearsal with André Coelho at 3PM! \nFrevo with Kate: 1-2PM\nLearn the basics of Recife’s carnival dance\, frevo! Dancer and dance scholar Kate Spanos will demonstrate and teach frevo dance using the methodology of Mexe Com Tudo (Otávio Bastos) of Recife. Learn more about frevo and Mexe Com Tudo here. \nSamba with Ilheuma Zezeh: 2-3PM\nLearn samba from Ilheuma Zezeh\, Brazilian dancer\, teacher\, choreographer\, performer\, and healer from São Paulo with a mission to bring more joy to the world through art. Ilheuma will demonstrate and teach the basics of samba dance. \nThis event is open to the public. All levels are welcome to participate. While primarily intended for adults\, everyone is welcome. Please note that this class will be held at Old Parish House of College Park at 4711 Knox Road. \nRegistration for the full semester of lessons (11 total) is $90. DESCRIPTION:College Park Trolley Trail Day Spotlight: https://collegeparkpartnership.org/trolleytrailday/ \nLearn from Brazilian samba master percussionist André Coelho from Rio de Janeiro! André will demonstrate and teach each of the essential Brazilian samba percussion instruments. We will have some percussion instruments available for participants to use\, but please bring your own instruments if you have any. \nThis is a regularly occurring Brazilian percussion ensemble practice. All levels are welcome to participate. \nWe also have a separate\, simultaneous session specifically geared towards children\, taught by Filipe Brandão from Minas Gerais. Lessons are taught in Brazilian Portuguese and English. If you want to strengthen your children’s ties to their home culture and heritage language\, or if you want a great\, authentic music experience for your little ones\, then sign up now! Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult at these sessions. No drop-offs allowed. Recommended for children ages 6 and up. \nRegistration for the full semester of lessons (11 total) is $90.
