DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Associação Brasileira de Cultura e Educação (ABRACE\, Brazilian Association of Culture and Education)\, EducArte offers free weekly music lessons on Saturday mornings for Portuguese-speaking children. Our instructors teach students the basics of Brazilian music\, including music theory\, history\, and practice. All classes are conducted in Portuguese to promote and maintain Brazilian arts\, culture\, and linguistic heritage language of participating families. \nFor ABRACE members only. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Dia do Samba\nJoin us for our two-part Brazilian carnival dance class\, featuring frevo and samba! You are welcome to come to one or both parts. Also\, stay for our bateria (samba percussion ensemble) rehearsal with André Coelho at 3PM! This event is open to the public. All levels are welcome to participate. \nFrevo with Kate: 1-2PM\nLearn the basics of Recife’s carnival dance\, frevo! Dancer and dance scholar Kate Spanos will demonstrate and teach frevo dance using the methodology of Mexe Com Tudo (Otávio Bastos) of Recife. Learn more about frevo and Mexe Com Tudo here. \nSamba with Ilheuma Zezeh: 2-3PM\nLearn samba from Ilheuma Zezeh\, Brazilian dancer\, teacher\, choreographer\, performer\, and healer from São Paulo with a mission to bring more joy to the world through art. Ilheuma will demonstrate and teach the basics of samba dance. \nRegistration for the full semester of lessons (9 total) is $120. Scholarships are available to those for whom cost is prohibitive (contact us for more information). \n$20 drop-ins are also available. \n\nThe event is a program of College Park-based arts non-profit EducArte. André will demonstrate and teach each of the essential Brazilian samba percussion instruments. We will have some percussion instruments available for participants to use\, but please bring your own instruments if you have any. \nThis is a regularly occurring Brazilian percussion ensemble practice.
