Renowned local Brazilian performers Pablo Regis\, André Coelho\, and Mariana Triginelli lead the Rio de Janeiro style music and dance event. Samba is an interactive experience and we invite you to join the sarau de samba. \nSet in the historic Glen Echo Park\, Sarau de Samba features a dynamic ensemble of skilled musicians and dancers\, showcasing the diverse rhythms of samba\, from Golden Age classics and choro to modern pagode and high-energy carnival beats. More than just a performance\, this event invites attendees to become part of the music\, with opportunities to dance\, sing\, and even play instruments alongside the professionals. Each session starts with a beginner dance lesson. The event is open to people of any skill level\, no partner or instruments required. \nSarau de Samba is presented by the region’s premier Brazilian performing arts presenter EducArte in partnership with Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture. Renowned local Brazilian performers Pablo Regis\, André Coelho\, and Mariana Triginelli lead the Rio de Janeiro style music and dance event. Samba is an interactive experience and we invite you to join the sarau de samba. \nSet in the historic Glen Echo Park\, Sarau de Samba features a dynamic ensemble of skilled musicians and dancers\, showcasing the diverse rhythms of samba\, from Golden Age classics and choro to modern pagode and high-energy carnival beats. More than just a performance\, this event invites attendees to become part of the music\, with opportunities to dance\, sing\, and even play instruments alongside the professionals. Each session starts with a beginner dance lesson. DESCRIPTION:Register Now »		 \nJoin us for a special percussive dance community engagement workshop with Soles of Duende on Saturday\, October 12 at 2-3 p.m. at CityDance in Friendship Heights!  \nThe all-female multicultural percussive trio will offer an immersive group class experience on creative expression through migrational dance forms\, centering creative conversation through music and movement. \nSoles of Duende members will teach foundational movement vocabulary from Kathak\, Flamenco\, and Tap and will guide students in the process of creating musical dialogue with these forms. \nSoles of Duende will perform later in the evening at Publick Playhouse in Cheverly\, MD. Samba is an interactive experience and we invite you to join the sarau de samba.  \nSet in the historic Glen Echo Park\, Sarau de Samba features a dynamic ensemble of skilled musicians and dancers\, showcasing the diverse rhythms of samba\, from Golden Age classics and choro to modern pagode and high-energy carnival beats. SUMMARY:Festival Style Irish Dance at Celtic Festival of Southern Maryland
DESCRIPTION:Kate Spanos Irish Dance will showcase the festival style of Irish dance at the Celtic Festival of Southern Maryland this year. Festival style Irish dance is a form associated with Northern Ireland that is distinct from the “feis” style step dancing that emerged in the mid-twentieth century. The style was pioneered by Patricia Mulholland\, a fiddler and dancer\, who created a “folk ballet” in the 1930-1950s to appeal to both Catholics and Protestants in the Belfast area. Influenced by Scottish and Irish step dancing\, festival style is known for its slow\, elegant\, and controlled slip jigs and set dances. Creating “light and shade” in one’s dancing is an important aspect of the style\, with graceful leg lifts\, swoops\, and spins. \nDrawing on her studies with Ruth Long and Lauren Smyth in the festival style tradition\, Kate and her student Maggie Hensler-McGinnis will present a showcase of traditional and modern soft shoe and hard shoe dances in this style.

The New Yorker notes that the group’s “dancers\, whose bodies also provide percussion\, are in a constant give-and-take with musicians on piano\, sax and bass. The feeling is that of being at a family reunion\, in which every family member has something to say.” \nLed by Brazilian choreographer Leonardo Sandoval and composer Gregory Richardson\, Music from the Sole’s work embraces tap’s unique nature as a blend of sound and movement\, incorporating wide-ranging influences like samba\, passinho\, Afro-Cuban\, jazz and house.
