SUMMARY:Brazilian frevo dance workshop at the Kennedy Center
DESCRIPTION:Learn frevo\, a high energy Brazilian carnival dance from northeastern Brazil! Kate Spanos of Mexe Com Tudo will teach you some basic frevo steps\, with a focus on joyous self-expression. Wear comfortable shoes. All are welcome! The movement will be accessible and adaptable to all abilities. \nMexe Com Tudo is a carnival group in Recife\, Brazil founded by Otávio Bastos and Marília Cavalcanti. Mexe Com Tudo offers frevo dance classes to students and student-teachers in Recife and abroad (via Zoom) that focus on freedom of expression\, improvisational strategies and the cultural history of frevo. Mexe Com Tudo also has an award-winning YouTube channel dedicated to all things frevo at www.youtube.com/mexecomtudo. \nThis workshop is part of On Deck: Women Shredding Through Boundaries at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage (outside at the Reach Plaza). This is an all-inclusive festival featuring women in action sports and music.
