Renowned local Brazilian performers Pablo Regis\, André Coelho\, and Mariana Triginelli lead the Rio de Janeiro style music and dance event. Samba is an interactive experience and we invite you to join the sarau de samba. \nSet in the historic Glen Echo Park\, Sarau de Samba features a dynamic ensemble of skilled musicians and dancers\, showcasing the diverse rhythms of samba\, from Golden Age classics and choro to modern pagode and high-energy carnival beats. More than just a performance\, this event invites attendees to become part of the music\, with opportunities to dance\, sing\, and even play instruments alongside the professionals. Each session starts with a beginner dance lesson. The event is open to people of any skill level\, no partner or instruments required. \nSarau de Samba is presented by the region’s premier Brazilian performing arts presenter EducArte in partnership with Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture. Glen Echo Park is a family friendly venue and park that offers free parking and is easily accessible by public transportation. Food and drink are for sale. TO 6 P.M. \n\nEvent details:\n\nLocation: Bumper Car Pavilion at Glen Echo Park\nTickets: $15 adults (pay now or at the door)\, $10 teens / $5 children under 12 (pay at the door); no refunds\n\nThis month\, the event will be in the Bumper Car Pavilion instead of the Ballroom Back Room. We are offering reserved tables (4 seats) in addition to regular general admission tickets.\n\n\nSchedule: 2 p.m. beginner dance lesson; 2:30-6:00 p.m. live music\nSpecial guest: Gigi MacLaughlin\nFood: This month\, The Churrasco: Brazilian BBQ will be on site\, selling authentic Brazilian espetinhos (grilled skewers). Praline Bakery will sell Brazilian drinks and snacks\, including salgadinhos (Brazilian snacks) from Americas Supermarket.\nAges: All ages are welcome\nParking: A free parking lot for Glen Echo Park is located just off MacArthur Boulevard on Oxford Road (5801 Oxford Road\, Glen Echo\, MD 20812)\, across from the Glen Echo Shopping Center. From the parking lot\, follow the foot-bridge across the Minnehaha Creek to enter the Park. See the map below.\nPublic transportation: See options here.\nNote: If you are sensitive to loud music\, please consider bringing earplugs.\nAccessibility: Glen Echo Park has plenty of accessible parking spots available at both the main parking lot and the upper parking lot off of MacArthur Boulevard. All restrooms at Glen Echo Park are accessible\, including the non-gendered and family restrooms located on the second floor of the Arcade building. SUMMARY:Irish Céilí Dance at Glen Echo Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening filled with traditional Irish music and dance! \nEducArte presents its FIRST céilí at Glen Echo Park! An Irish céilí is a social gathering filled with traditional music and dance. We will learn some basic Irish dance steps and beginner friendly group dances\, accompanied by live music by some of the region’s best Irish musicians. \nThe called will be dancer Kate Spanos and the band will include Marty Frye (flute)\, David McKindley-Ward (tenor banjo)\, and Lexie Boatright (concertina)\, joined by special guest Ryan Ward (piano) from New York. We will also have a performance by the talented students of the Baltimore-Washington Academy of Irish Culture during the break. \nThe event will be held in the Bumper Car Pavilion at Glen Echo Park. The Bumper Car Pavilion is an outdoor\, covered pavilion. Tickets are $15 per person. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Note: Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is not required; face masks are encouraged but not required. \nThe event is a program of College Park-based arts non-profit EducArte.
