DESCRIPTION:Do not miss out this amazing opportunity to learn first-hanbd about connections between samba no pé\, orixá dances\, the African diaspora\, and processes of bodily decolonization\, inviting dancers of all levels to explore ancestry\, embodiment\, and cultural identity through movement. \nCasa da Cultura Brasileira EducArte is proud to host two samba dance workshops with master Afro-Brazilian dance artist\, choreographer\, researcher\, and educator Pablo Guerreiro on Saturday\, August 22. Drawing on a career spanning Rio’s Carnival\, samba schools\, audiovisual productions\, and international residencies\, Pablo’s research explores connections among samba no pé\, orixá dances\, the African diaspora\, and processes of bodily decolonization\, leading to the development of his own unique methodologies for teaching and artistic creation. Contact us to schedule a private class. \nWorkshops (Saturday\, August 22\, 2026) \n\nWorkshop #1: 2-3:30 PM\nWorkshop #2: 4-5:30 PM\nLocation: Dance Place’s Brookland Arts Loft Studio\, 3305 8th St NE\, Washington\, DC (across from ArtsPark at 3225 8th St.\, NE)\n\n\nAbout Pablo Guerreiro\nPablo Guerreiro is a dance artist\, choreographer\, researcher\, and educator specializing in Afro-Brazilian cultures. His career spans Carnival\, Afro-diasporic dance\, audiovisual media\, and artistic training in Brazil and abroad. \nA native of Porto Alegre (RS)\, he began his training at age 12 with the *Grupo Afro-Sul Odomodê*\, one of the most important institutions for the preservation and dissemination of Black culture in southern Brazil. Over seven years\, he studied Afro-Brazilian dance\, music\, percussion\, theater\, and Afro-Gaúcho culture—an experience that became the foundation of his artistic research and his understanding of ancestry as a central element of the creative process. \nWinner of two *Estandarte de Ouro* awards as a *passista* (solo Carnival dancer) in Porto Alegre (2006 and 2007)\, he built a career defined by technical excellence and a deep exploration of the connections between samba\, embodiment\, and cultural identity. \nIn Rio de Janeiro\, he joined Jaime Arôxa Dance Company\, working as both a dancer and instructor\, and contributed to artist training at renowned institutions such as the *Escola de Mestre-Sala e Porta-Bandeira Manoel Dionísio*. Throughout his career\, he has participated in the *Comissões de Frente* (opening performance troupes) of major samba schools\, working as a dancer\, assistant choreographer\, and choreographer alongside prominent figures of Rio’s Carnival. \nAs an artistic director and creator\, he has developed projects for samba schools and large-scale productions. Notable highlights include his work with *Acadêmicos do Cubango*\, where he established an aesthetic style rooted in Afro-Brazilian cosmologies\, and his contribution to *Unidos da Tijuca*\, where he participated in a process of artistic renewal and strengthened ties between the school and its community through choreographic\, educational\, and cultural initiatives. \nIn the audiovisual sector\, he served as an assistant choreographer for the telenovela *Lado a Lado* and as a choreographer and cast coach for *Flor do Caribe*\, both productions by TV Globo. He conducts workshops\, artistic residencies\, lectures\, and training programs at universities and cultural centers across Europe\, the United States\, and Latin America. His research explores the connections between *samba no pé*\, *orixá* dances\, the African diaspora\, and processes of bodily decolonization\, leading to the development of his own unique methodologies for teaching and artistic creation. \nRecognized for bridging tradition\, research\, and innovation\, Pablo Guerreiro has built a career dedicated to championing Afro-Brazilian cultures\, training emerging artists\, and crafting narratives that place Black ancestry at the heart of the contemporary arts scene.
