Larry & Joe bring bilingual and bicultural performance to Joe’s Movement Emporium

Larry & Joe at Joe's Movement Emporium

What a fantastic show on Saturday night with Larry & Joe! They brought amazing energy with their bilingual and bi-cultural performance, combining Venezuelan llanera music with Appalachian bluegrass. Larry & Joe promote an important social message—that music has no borders—and they are virtuosos on a wide range of instruments. And their singing! 🤩

Larry Bellorín hails from Monagas, Venezuela, and is a legend of Llanera music. Joe Troop is from North Carolina and is a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old-time musician. Larry was forced into exile and is an asylum seeker in North Carolina. After a decade in South America, Joe got stranded back in his stomping grounds during the pandemic. Up until right before this tour started, Larry worked construction to make ends meet. Joe’s acclaimed “latingrass” band Che Apalache was forced into hiatus, and he shifted into action working with asylum-seeking migrants. Learn more about Larry & Joe on their website.

We can’t wait to bring them back to the DC area!

Thanks to our partner, Joe’s Movement Emporium, and our sponsor, the Fulbright Association National Capital Area Chapter (NCAC).
