Our mission

EducArte works to ensure equity in the performing arts and arts education for Brazilian and Latin American audiences and artists in the Greater Washington DC region. We offer music and dance programs that celebrate the cultural knowledge of African, Indigenous, and European communities in Brazil and throughout the Americas.

Our vision

We envision a performing arts and arts education landscape in which local and visiting performers and educators in Latin American traditions reflect the demographic makeup, aesthetic values, and cultural traditions of our local audiences, and where creatives feel free to explore these rich traditions to create new works and innovate their practices.

Our values

Our guiding values are to elevate equity and diversity in the arts, pay artists fairly, build community through creativity, and respect all cultural traditions equally. We approach our projects and community with a deep commitment to social justice, equity, inclusion, and equality.

Our work

We create educational programs to promote and support local and visiting artists. Our work sparks cross-cultural communication through workshops, lectures, discussions, residencies, and community events in traditional and non-traditional arts spaces.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

EducArte values and celebrates diversity. Central to our mission is the representation of cultural practices of historically marginalized communities through our educational programming. We define diversity in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and class, as well as life experiences, educational background, and artistic research and practice. Our organization is committed to creating an inclusive environment in both our programming and within our internal team. We are also committed to ensuring that our board and administrative team includes people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
