Last weekend, we wrapped up the spring session of our Brazilian Arts Academy. In preparation for Festa Junina (Brazil’s June celebrations), our students learned about forró and quadrilha, including the typical forró instruments like the triangle, zabumba, and accordion; traditional Northeastern dances; and classic forró song lyrics like Jackson do Pandeiro’s “Sebastiana” and Luiz Gonzaga’s “Olha Pro Céu.”
We will start up another Brazilian Arts Academy session in the fall. Stay tuned for more details!
