EducArte commemorates Brazilian Independence Day with a free Sarau de Samba

Sarau de Samba - September 7

Our Sarau de Samba on Sunday, September 7, was offered free to the public to mark Brazilian Independence Day, thanks to a grant from the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center. The event activated Glen Echo Park to highlight community connections and demonstrate our shared commitment to creating a more equitable, multicultural region. Offering free admission meant that we could include more community members who may not otherwise have the means to pay, expanding access to this important Brazilian cultural event in our region.

During the Sarau de Samba, our master Brazilian artists performed live and taught participatory dance lessons, and families and community members of all backgrounds joined around the table, just as samba is practiced in Rio de Janeiro. The event brought out Brazilian and non-Brazilian families to celebrate the roots and legacy of samba and Brazilian culture.

We are happy to provide joyful, healing arts experiences that support identity and connection for Latin American, Brazilian, and wider communities in Montgomery County and the DC region.
