🇺🇸
EducArte celebrates its first annual Festa Junina party, featuring forró super band Forróçacana directly from Brazil!

Festa Junina is Brazil’s second largest festival after Carnival and just as fun! Celebrate this amazing festival with traditional music and dances like forró and quadrilha. This year, EducArte presents Forróçacana, one of Brazil’s most innovative forró bands, celebrating 25 years of thrilling audiences with their high-energy music.

Forróçacana emerged in 1997 from the union of a young group of musicians who had a shared love for forró pé de serra and were heavily inspired by forró legends Luiz Gonzaga, Jackson do Pandeiro, and Dominguinhos. Their unique style, born from three decades of performance, combines traditional forró with other Brazilian rhythms such as samba and choro, while also drawing from other influences such as rock and reggae music. They have made several global international tours and they now perform for the first time in Washington, DC.

Special guest DJ Grace will open the night. Special thanks to Mulheres Brasileiras de Virginia and Grupo Mulheres do Brasil Núcleo Washington DC for bringing their rich experience and knowledge of the traditional Festa Junina, complete with typical foods, Junina flags and decorations, and a fun enactment of the traditional “casamento na roça,” or shotgun wedding. Wear your best caipira costume! Forróçacana will bring the energy and get us dancing forró and quadrilha all night.

This is a family-friendly event. All ages are welcome.

Presented by EducArte.

🇧🇷

EducArte partners with the Personal Care Foundation

Personal Care FoundationEducArte is proud to announce our partnership with the Personal Care Foundation. We will be collecting personal care products to support survivors of domestic violence at our Festa Junina with Forróçacana on June 13 at Black Cat.

Support this worthy cause by bringing and donating one or more of the following personal care items. PCF will be on site collecting shampoo and conditioner at the concert on June 13.

Personal Care Foundation is a Maryland-based 501(c)3 nonprofit that was founded by our Brazilian American friend Carol Freitas, who, after breaking free of an abusive relationship in 2018 and struggling to support her family, made it her mission to provide essential hygiene products to survivors of domestic violence and to foster their physical and mental well-being. A typical PCF Care Package includes full-size items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, disinfecting wipes, menstrual products, and SPF50 sunscreen.
