EducArte is thrilled to welcome back the joyous energy of Rio de Janeiro carnival to the DC area!
Monobloco is a “bloco,” or street band, that parades during carnival in Rio de Janeiro and is also a professional touring band. The group became popular by creating powerful cover versions of Brazilian hits, stepping outside of the samba genre. Classics by Tim Maia, Jorge Benjor, Alceu Valença, and many others were transformed into samba anthems and attracted fans from a whole new generation. During the world-famous Rio de Janeiro carnival, Monobloco has its own parade, which today attracts over half a million people to the streets to dance and sing. The group’s popularity soon led to the creation of a professional touring band, which has performed extensively around Brazil and internationally, including at the London Olympics in 2012. The group has also released several live and studio albums including the 2010 release called “10,” which was nominated for a Latin GRAMMY for Best Samba/Pagode album.
EducArte last presented Monobloco at Glen Echo Park in June 2022. It was an exciting live performance! Experience the electric exuberance of Rio de Janeiro’s street carnival.

O grupo começou em 2000 como uma festa de samba que rapidamente ganhou popularidade ao criar versões cover poderosas de clássicos de Tim Maia, Jorge Benjor, Alceu Valença e muitos outros. Além desses sucessos o Monobloco também interpreta clássicos do samba, marchinhas, forró e até funk. Durante o mundialmente famoso carnaval carioca, o Monobloco tornou-se um “bloco” oficial, que hoje atrai milhões de pessoas às ruas para dançar e cantar. O Monobloco desenvolveu uma banda para shows que já fez turnês pelo Brasil e pelo mundo e também gravou vários álbuns indicados ao Latin GRAMMY.

About the venue
Situated in the heart of Washington, DC, Hook Hall is a traditional tavern and event space. We will be in the Main Hall, which is a spacious hall with plenty of room for dancing. They will have a full bar open and will serve food and drinks all night.
Hook Hall is metro accessible.
- The nearest metro stop is Georgia Ave-Petworth. Street parking is also available.
- We encourage carpooling and ridesharing.
Hook Hall only allows patrons ages 21 and over. People under 21 will not be allowed in the venue.
