We had an amazing time at Creative Alliance‘s annual Viva Brasil! Carnival Dance Party in Baltimore yesterday! This was the first one since 2020, when we last presented JP Silva right before the COVID-19 lockdowns. You could feel the energy back in the space after the long hiatus!
In the afternoon, EducArte hosted two workshops: our bateria class led by André Coelho and our samba dance class led by Ilheuma Zezeh. We had great attendance, including regular members and new folks from the Baltimore area. We were in Creative Alliance’s brand new Creativity Center, across the street from the Patterson Theatre. What a beautiful space!
In the evening, we presented JP Silva, who came straight to us from Rio’s Carnival! Born and based in Rio de Janeiro, JP is a singer, composer, and instrumentalist who has come to DC/Baltimore many times over the years. We were thrilled to present him again! He was joined by Pablo’s Baile Band to play carnival favorites from all over Brazil—Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio, and more! Everyone was jumping and singing along in their best carnival outfits.
Special thanks to Tinku Bhattacharyya and the folks at Creative Alliance. And thanks to everyone who came out!
