The band was met with a full house of excited fans of this new generation of Brazilian popular music. It was moving to see everyone swaying and singing along with their latest hits, and they ended with some classic samba to bring it all back to the band’s roots in Bahia.

On Saturday night, iconic Brazilian guitarist and songwriter João Bosco brought his quartet to Catholic University’s Hartke Theatre on Saturday evening. He was joined by top Brazilian musicians Ricardo Silveira (guitar), Kiko Freitas (drums), and Guto Wirtti (bass). We loved hearing Bosco’s classics, like “O Bêbado e a Equilibrista,” “Incompatibilidade de Gênios,” and “De Frente Pro Crime,” among other favorites.

We made it to the homepage of Washington City Paper this week! Thanks Steve Kiviat for writing a beautiful feature on EducArte’s first Brazilian Guitar Masters Festival this weekend, with two incredible concerts by Yamandu Costa and João Bosco.
Kiviat writes:
“This weekend offers an opportunity to hear Brazilian masters of guitar from two different generations, who each bring their own unique songcraft touches: Yamandu Costa and João Bosco. […] Costa…has become acclaimed for his speedy, high-pitched finger work on tuneful, leisurely Brazilian samba and bossa nova, as well as on upbeat tango, Roma jazz, and swing jazz. […] For decades now, Bosco has been writing joyous sing-alongs, busy but beautiful rhythmic sambas, and tender slow songs. Bosco is adept at playing percussion-like rhythms on his guitar as well as sweet, picked notes.”
